ATTENTION: All Importers that apply for your own Quarantine Import Permits
The Department of Agriculture and Water Resources has revised the implementation approach of the new Biosecurity Import Conditions (BICON) system.
The new approach involves an expansion of the current pilot until 18 October 2015 followed by the progressive removal of ePermits, ICON and eLodgement capability from 19 October 2015, to help manage the uptake of the permits function. BICON will be made generally available for import conditions search and browse, registration and permit applications from 19 October 2015.

The Department of Agriculture will soon implement the new BICON system, which will support industry clients along with the general public in complying with Australia's biosecurity obligations. The BICON system will take over from the previously used ICON system.
BICON's full launch is planned for October 2015, with information sessions being held in September. The Department of Agriculture's website has all the details.
What does this mean for you?
If you are an importer that applies for your own Quarantine Import Permit, you will now be able to lodge applications via the BICON system. There is also the ability to manage multiple import permit applications. You can also search and view import conditions for products using tariff codes, scientific names and generic product names.
Note that the introduction of the BICON system will see the older method of applying for import permits (paper) no longer valid.
