Port of Melbourne lease sale hits potential roadblock, Opposition uncovers industry concerns
A bid to push through legislation to lease the Port of Melbourne by the Victorian Government has hit a potential hurdle.
David Hodgett, the Opposition's spokesman on ports, said they would not support the bill in its current form because it is not what the Government promised during last year's election.
Mr Hodgett said an Upper House inquiry had uncovered a number of concerns about the proposed 50-year lease of the port.
"Those industry concerns about competition, about the term of the lease, about regulation will need to be talked through and worked through with the Government," he said.
