QUARANTINE REQUIREMENTS FOR UPCOMING STINK BUG SEASON

The new draft Quarantine requirements for the 2018-2019 Marmorated Stink Bug season have been released.

 

These annual measures are becoming more substantial every year and cover a very broad range of goods.

 

If LMF is handling the forwarding on your shipments, we have already commenced making enquiries with our agents.

 

If your shipments are arranged by your suppliers, then you need to make them aware of these new requirements.

 

The following are considered "Target high risk goods":

 

36 Explosives, pyrotechnics

74 Copper

84 Machinery

44 Wood

75 Nickel

85 Electrical machinery of all kinds

45 Cork

76 Aluminium

86 Railway locos

57 Carpets

78 Lead

87 Vehicles and spare parts

68 Stone, and cement articles

79 Zinc

88 Aircraft

69 Ceramic articles

80 Tin

89 Ships

70 Glass

81 Base metals

93 Arms, ammunition

72 Steel, iron

82 Tools, cutlery

 

73 Steel articles

83 Base metal articles

 

 

Any of the above goods shipped from the following countries, will be impacted:

 

United States

Italy

Germany

France

Russia

Greece

Hungary

Romania

Georgia

 

At this stage the measures can be summarised as follows:

 

 

Shipping method

(usually arranged by forwarder once loaded into the container)

Will require treatment either overseas, or possibly

 

in Australia. (to be confirmed)

Will require treatment either overseas, or possibly

 

in Australia. (to be confirmed)

 

It is important to note that only treatment providers that have been approved by

the Department of Agriculture will be acceptable. A list will be provided in August.

 

Treatment options

- heat treatment

- methyl bromide fumigation

- sulfuryl fluoride fumigation

 

Re-export

There are provisions for the re export or destruction of target high risk goods requiring mandatory offshore treatment that arrive untreated, or treated by an unapproved treatment provider, at the cost of the importer.
